We need a serious increase in red carpet events around here (not generally speaking, I definitely mean here @ Baum.com), and also a boatload of money.

Elie Saab is definitely my hands down, favorite designer right now- and I am BAFFLED we haven't seen more of him on the red carpet this season. He does gowns so impeccably-- the details, the color, everything. He is a Lebanese designer, and he incorporates so many cultural details into his also chic-modern gowns.

My iphone has totally ruined me. While I love the easy access to a camera, I am totally neglecting my wonderful Canon-- and I've become a little bit bad at documenting my life and projects. (As if lots is going on around here.....)

So here's what's up:

I started back at school as an Art History Major. I lucked out that every single one of my classes is on the same campus (there are multiple), in the same building, and even in the same CLASSROOM. (You would think it would save time to just stay in that room all day, but I actually move my car between every class so I can park across the street and not get a ticket. Rebel!!!)

Anyhow, my building is right next to this. Like seriously, in the middle of historic Columbus. Me likey. (At night, downtown---- ehhh it's a little rapey out there. Which is why I risk the tickets and park across the street in city parking)

I bought myself some back to school shoes, and you can see me wearing these on a nearly-daily basis. Its about TIME i went for it, considering I've eyed these for a year, and have designed oodles of outfits around them. They're so comfy. I want all my shoes to be some version of these old man loafer slippers.

I managed to down nearly an entire thing of macaroons last week. I love them. (the anti-diet)

I've been enjoying my sweet boy, and my sweet boy has been punishing me for leaving him home all day while I'm at school. But, I think he appreciates me more, and constantly has to be up in my business-- head on me, leaning on me, breathing in my face, pawing at my arm to scratch him...... he's my little shadow. (This is a little sneak peak of my living room, I guess too---)

Aside from that, school is kicking my rear, and I keep planning to spend my weekends doing projects and studying, but I'm still not quite back in the groove yet. This morning my dryer was FINALLY Fixed, and my bed is buried somewhere under a bunch of laundry.............Hallelujah for clean clothes- after nearly 3 weeks of getting REALLY creative with outfits.

Hunting Season

...It's hunting season here at Baum.com. Searching for the missing links in the Benning Abode-- including seating, and the constant prowl for more globes. (I obsess over globes, and happen to have two design assignments requiring them). When I have gaps at school, I try to venture out to explore for my next new favorite places.

On my first day back to class, I was a WRECK.

Here's how it went: Woke up early (after a late night of Michael Jackson wii) to take Chelsea to the airport. Drove the 1.5 hours to Columbus in pouring rain (closer to 2 hours in that weather). Hurried to get ready for school. Struggled to figure out where everything was on my new campus. Lost. Bought textbooks (cha-ching$. Those greedy B@$^@&#$!!!!). Found shady parking garage several blocks away. Walked those several blocks in the pouring rain to my class. Worst class of my life, with an arrogant dirt bag of a professor. (Nearly dropped out of school then and there). Walked those several blocks in the pouring rain 3 more times in soaking shoes. Kid next to me in class smelled like feet. Other kid next to me is on some committee for Comicon. (Unbearable nerd conversation for like 17 minutes.) Artsy kid in front of me has a boob drawn on his laptop case. Really? School day finally over when it's pitch black and still raining. Make my final walk to the sketchy parking garage in the dark, but ---made it home without getting shot in the face.

*The one saving grace to that first day was running into the bathroom after getting soaked, and stumbling upon this gem. Yes, this is the bathroom at my school. (It's a cool historic building downtown). Check out this killer wallpaper. It's like they knew I was coming and knew I was going to be going through a top-ten-worst-day-in-my-life.

This post is long overdue.... My sister Chelsea came out at the beginning of the month to give me some much needed company and sistah-time. We weren't very good at documenting the trip.... and our iphone pictures really suck. We were able to spend the first part and the last part up in Atlanta with our brother Reed & his fam, where we had a good time staying up way too late--dancing to the Michael Jackson wii game, and playing with 3 funny little boys. We shopped at Atlantic Station, got gourmet donuts at Sublime, drove ALL around Atlanta (mostly unintentionally...), went for walks in the sunny weather, and ate at The Varsity-- a fun old fashioned diner in the city.

It was a BLAST, and it came and went way too quickly. The morning she left, I hauled back down from Atlanta to Columbus to start my first day back at school (after having ditched the real first day to hang out with my sissyduckling). Talk about going from highs to lows!

Did you watch the globes last night? Ok- my predictions were a little off.

Charlize pulled a magical Dior Couture out of the hat (yes, being the campaign girl has its perks) and looked phenomenal.

She's blessed.

I was right about Michelle Williams doing something weird...... I love Jason Wu, but on you, Jason Wu =look like poo.

This dress would have been great on someone like..... Sandra Bullock or Julia Roberts. I don't think Michelle's upper body is quite right for this fit..... and the color just isn't doing much for her.

It's a golden day today-- and I'm very excited tokick off awards season with a fashion post. I picked a few nominees thatwould be a dream to style, and made a few predictions/hopes for what I'd likethe nom's to be wearing.

Charlize is a fashionista's dream. (And alsoany man's.) She's extremely fashionable, with a classic grace kelly face,and always impeccable hair. I'm nuts about this dress (though hers wouldnot be $125 on Amazon, I'm sure....)

No, not what you’re thinking…. It’s not Utah I’m missing. Nor is it Fayetteville!—my old house,however, has me longing for the days when I had my own space—my big fenced backyard,my high ceilings, my big bathrooms and closets….. Everything was new and shiny.

These pictures are from one of my favorite days inmy house- where the lighting, the snow, and everything just felt right. I remember this day so vividly (it wasthe day after Christmas last year, our first big snow in NC and my house wassuper clean and smelled like fresh balsam. :) And Kyle was home)

Don’t get me wrong, the new place is comingalong. (Have I kept you insuspense long enough? A few moreweeks and it will be worth blogging about). But no matter how much I scrub and paint, this place ain’tnew- and I’m struggling to make it feel like a home. Putting my stamp on things has been a balancing act betweenwhat I want vs. what they’ll LET me do vs. how much I’m willing/able tospend. 80+ years and 80+ tenantslater, this place is Hag-gard.

Dear current tenants of said house: If you screw this place up, I can’tforgive you. You’ll be on myforever poop list… #622 was myBABY! (And Rambo will probablykick you out of “his” house too.)

Yes, I did it again. It's a new year at a new school and me no likey. More semesters of soul-crushing courses lie ahead for me, and now I'm wishing I could just be a stay-at-home-decorator. My first class on my first day had me certain I was in the wrong place, and I'm now accepting applications for a body double to sit in for me, like Tia & Tamera back in the day. It SUCKS.

I did have things going on to blog about-- i.e., a visit from my sister & many fun outings with her, decorating projects, and the Duchess's b-day... but clearly life has gotten away from me if I can't find time for Catherine's Bday post. I can hardly get ahead on laundry, let alone catch up on blogging. (Did I mention Murphy's Law hit me in the face this week with a broken dryer??? Ya. Awesome.)

Anyway, if you're wondering what I've been up to, it's second-guessing my decision to press forward at the "Big Kids" school since i've graduated from the podunk community colleges. My brain is in knots during Early Modern European Military History. I am certain there is only a certain amount of brain capacity, and my knowledge of the Duchess of Cambridge has prohibited me from learning a single thing about the Duke of Marlborough. Middleton=awesome, Middle Ages=LAME-O!

Some day I will catch up and post the crummy iphone pics I snapped. Until then......

I'm a few days late on a new years post-- and I certainly don't want to repeat all the things you've already heard. I'm not going to broadcast resolutions of running a marathon, or being the perfect housewife and mother, or even promise to read 50 books. (I can only promise to watch 50 things on Bravo.)

So instead- I thought I'd make a list of things I'm rooting for in the year of '12.

1*This should be the year of a royal kiddiewink. Willy & Catherine, time to get on it. That way my kids will have royalty to marry (I missed the boat on that one.)

2*As long as we're on the topic of babies--, move over Ryan Reynolds (and move your eyes over too, they're a little too close together for my liking.) This is the year for Ryan GOSLING to be with Blake Lively. And make BEAUTIFUL babies. (Kids, you'll thank me in the future for secreting this into the universe.)

3*To continue in the business of matchmaking, we've got to hook up Prince Harry with Emma Watson. (this brings us full circle to #1) Chelsea Davy looks like she lives in a wind tunnel. I think the Queen will back me up on this one.

4* People who need to go away: Russell Brand, Jo-Bros, Kesha, Jersey Shore, Miley Cyrus, Guy Fieri, Lindsey Lohan (or any Lohan), Pattinson & Stewart, Scarlett Johanson, Nick Cage, Denise Richards, Courtney Stodden, Wendy Williams, Tom Cruise...... (if you want to add to this list, comment below.)

Yarn Letters

Did another little project for my bookshelves.... It's pretty self-explanitory-- however, there are a few things I'd do differently if I could do it over again....

What you need:

cardboard letter, yarn, scissors, glue gun

*I wish I had painted before hand.... I recommend it.

I covered the edges with rows of short pieces first, then start winding the yarn around.

*Beware: It is super time consuming, and perfection is nearly impossible.

I discovered this the hard way.

Something is a little off here @ Baum.com.... and the christmas spirit has been lacking. Some of it may have to do with the 70 degree weather we've got down here in GA, it just makes it difficult without the chilly air or the fireplace going to really make it feel like the holidays. (Literally. I'm in shorts, and only wearing a cozy robe because I had to take Rambo out to the bathroom and wasn't wearing a b-r-a-.)

But the cold isn't what makes it feel the most off... It truly makes all the difference to have the people you love around you. And I've spent Christmases away from family before, and that's not it either. It's one person in particular. (sorry Rambo, you can't fill his boots). So much of Christmas is about your loved one. (No, I didn't forget about Jesus, and all of that-- obviously that's #1) I really miss the thrill of hunting for the perfect gift, and getting soo excited about what i'm GIVING that I nearly blow the surprise altogether. (some years I have let the cat out of the bag!.) I also have loved starting traditions with the Bauminator over our last few years... I can't believe it's our FIFTH Christmas together! (Maybe it's a good thing he's gone, because I've really used up all my good ideas for gifts already, and can't out-do myself anymore.)

Mossy Wreath DIY

What you need:

*wooden letter (mine is thin, but a thick one or cardboard letter would also work)

*craft moss-- I like the sheets better than the rolls

*hot glue

*craft paint (optional)

*ribbon (mine is gold burlap from PB)

*I covered the letters front and back with a green paint first in case there was any show-through. This was my first go-round, and I wanted to be on the safe side. Since I also made some as gifts, I covered the back so it looked more "done"

*I laid the letter face down on the moss (paper side up), and traced out the letter, leaving 1/4-1/2" around it. I used hot glue in small sections to fasten the moss to the letter, glueing about 2" sections at a time. (any more, and it dries out before the moss comes!) I cut slits in my little B-holes (never thought I'd use that word on my blog) so that I could glue it and wrap it inside there. I trimmed any extra around the ends.

...as did a very key component of my life. Normally this time of year I would be posting all my festive fancies and blaring harry connick jr, but this year feels a little different. a LOT different.

The Christmas Cheer disappeared with a key family member, and yes-- this is how I REALLY feel:

:) FYI this mock-up christmas card was all kyle's doing. (he was really sick of me bugging him to pick a design, and forcing him into a photo shoot). pardon the language, but we loved it so much we were tempted to send it out to our friends with humor-- ...so if you didn't get it you're not funny????

just kidding. We didn't go through with it.

Anyhow, it's been way too quiet around here, and I haven't had the motivation to get back to blogging. I have, however, been painting anything I can get my hands on and staying up till the wee hours of the morning painting (often having never showered that day-- or I think today is 2 or 3 in a row??? Can't keep track anymore.) Oops. Like I said-- painting zombie. As pathetic as it sounds-- its horribly addicting to fill my time with unnecessary labor, because when I roll into bed at 2am I am too exhausted and sore to notice that my bedmate is missing.

(Not true, I am drained from missing him also.)

Point of this story is that this sucks. Some days are better than others, but if I'm pushing you out or neglecting blog duties, it's simply because no one can fill the void.

I am starting to get into the swing of things again, so be patient and I will reward you with some blog gems. Lots of projects on the docket, and I'm feeling more gutsy than ever. (and poorer-- umm, I am really missing my job right about now... retail therapy is underrated!)

So now that I'm back from Utahpia, I ran into a bit of a reality check as I walked through my door (aka tripped on cardboard boxes). I seem to remember-- or dreamed, rather, that my house was all unpacked while I was away. Though we've been in the house for about 3 weeks now, we were gone for the last two, which has really put a big damper on my plans to have my act together.

We're trying to get on with life, though I still am struggling to settle in, or get back on track with the roll I was on before we left. My drive is gone!

Since we got back we discovered there needs to be a little holiday dieting. And I wasn't talking about myself:

86 lbs. and counting. (At least half is stashed in his neckfat)

I'll also show off the only corner of my house thats got its act together so far:

Also, my limited closet and bathroom space has allowed me to spill over into the built-in bookshelves in our bedroom for a make-shift beauty station. I figure this will make my jewelry and shoe selection go a lot quicker since I can see it from the bed???? JK but I do love all my girly stuff, and it helps to offset the rucksacks full of all-things-camouflage strewn about my living room.

I can't believe it's been two weeks and I've been slacking on the job... It's not as though things haven't been going on, I just have had too much going on and got too far behind while spending quality time with the Bauminator. We spend a week in STL and then Thanksgiving day I flew to Utah for my dad's 60th birthday. It was a brief trip, but I will fill you in on the action according to the pictures I took on my phone. (thank heaven for instagram!)

In STL I made a cute wreath:

We also went to the St. Louis Temple, and Kyle clocked in a lot of hours playing x-box with his brothers... We also got addicted to the show Breaking Bad.

I spent Thanksgiving in airports eating dunkin donuts.

Then flew to Utah, and made my dreams come true:

We had my dad's party- and a lot of crazy preparations for it (I'll post pictures later)

I spent some quality time with Gracie girl,

And ate my favorite food (cafe rio) with some of my favorite friends on my last night.

We made the trek to Kyle's hometown of St. Louis the other day. Kyle has block leave, and now that we are in Georgia, it's "only" a ten hour drive. Kyle was giddy as a school boy returning to his hometown-- listening to Nelly and reminiscing about his "Glory Days."

We are enjoying the time before the big D with his family-- and Rambo has made some buddies here too. (kitty, atom, and baxter)

So far, we've gone to lunch at my favorite place: Crown Candy Kitchen. If you're ever in STL, you have to check this place out-- for LUNCH. (It's in a sketchy hood in north STL) It's a quaint old fashioned malt shoppe.

We also wandered downtown to the Arch and the Museum of Westward Expansion below it.

We went up into the Arch-- it was my first time doing it, and I was warned about claustrophobia... The trams up to the top are these tiny little rickety old pods where your knees basically touch the persons sitting in front of you. (Please wear deodorant.)

The view from the top of downtown-- that white building with the green dome is where the Dred Scott case was held.

And that is Busch Stadium- where the Cardinals won the world series. :)

I don't know that I ever need to go up in the Arch again, but I'm glad I did it and it wasn't that bad. It's a great view of the city, and a remarkable piece of architecture.

You would think that having moved in to a house dripping with nothing but Antique White paint would have me feeling quite bored with the color. It's true, I'm itching to paint some walls and put my stamp on this old box, but there is something so refreshing about a white and neutral color scheme. I am loving its classic crispness and am all about breaking that labor day rule. Realistically, we can't all live like this, but it sure is nice to dream about! :)

*Enjoying one of my last weekends home with Kyle....
*Christmas came early for me, and I'm officially a hipster with an iphone, and now I don't know what I ever did without it.
*We went to our ward for the first time today, and I'm happy to say it's the most "normal" one we've been in so far! Hallelujah! I'm still working on starting life over here, but it's reassuring to know that I know more people here than I did when we moved to Fort Bragg. (I also immediately jumped in to working at a salon, so that quickly changed-- and I won't have that here.) Starting over has its perks-- but it mostly just sucks. Remember that when you think of military families this weekend.
*Rambo is loving the dog park and squirrels... There is a VENDING machine in our dog park!!! I was super excited when I saw it, then was actually a little disappointed when I saw that it's a vending machine for DOG treats. What about the humans?!
*Hate school. Hate Hate Hate. Constantly tempted to call it quits after this semester and go back to making money. (and spending??? West Elm Christmas catalogue makes this especially tempting.)
*The moving in has kind of come to a stand still... I worked like crazy the first few days and have hit a wall at "civilized", and can't seem to push forward to "organized." I will have lots of time to do that once kyle has left, but it would still be nice to come home to a settled house. I wish I could snap my fingers, or have Nate Berkus's crew come do it for me while I'm out.

-Got an iphone yesterday, and it's amazing all the things I was missing out on in life. I'm still not sure what the point of Siri is, although the lady at the Sprint store demonstrated by saying "I'm Drunk!" and the phone responded, "I'm sorry to hear that, here's a list of cabs in your area." I'll get used to it soon enough. But, umm-- Pinterest on my PHONE!? Can you say dead battery? Love Love Love it.

I've still got all too many boxes and crap lingering in every nook of my house. Trying to find the "place" for each thing is really complicated. Grrr. And I keep fighting the temptation to whip out the christmas decor NOW, since we are about to leave for a few weeks and it will have been socially acceptable to have it up for 10 days by then, and I simply can't lose that many days of christmas. :)

We're D-Day+3 into Operation White Elephant, and regimented tactical operations have now ceased and it's more like guerilla warfare in here. Most of the living room is situated, with the exception of one couch casualty that was KIA as we tried to fit it through the door.... The kitchen objective has been completed- all plates and cups have found their positions, in spite of a hostile environment. The bedroom, guest room, other room, dining room, and linen closet all appear to have been hit by an IED.

I officially have clothes in my closet, yet have been such a cardboard zombie, I haven't yet ventured into the shower nor to dress myself appropriately as a civilized human being. Operation Running Water (aka taking a shower) has been postponed until further notice.

Thought I'd give you a 24 hour update. It's amazing that we weren't swallowed alive by cardboard.

The dining room is still a disaster, but considering that is where all of the boxes originated, I'm proud that you can even see a speck of floor:

Umm--- yeah, the bedroom. We are kind of living in squalor, but the bed WILL have sheets on tonight! Clothes are now in the closet!

So now you all know that my house is not always Martha Stewart Perfect. :)

I'll give you another update once all the boxes are gone and it's semi-decent....

Introducing: The White Elephant

Hi guys-- I have survived the weekend from hell! Kyle, Rambo, and I are trying to settle in to our new home in Georgia. With a leap of faith, we drove down with all of our belongings-- a 25 foot moving truck, and two cars full, and were shown ONE house on Monday, which we promptly snatched up and moved in Monday night. We lucked out that the only house they had on post to show us was a good one-- though we are taking one for the team, and going yard-less, which rambo still hasn't figured out how to deal with. (On the bright side, no lawn mowing/yard work for the next few years!)

Here are some photos from before hell broke loose and the boxes started flooding in. We are in a neighborhood on post called the White Elephants, and they are something like 70 years old. While it's a little rough around the edges, and our possibilities do have limits (nothing permanent-- that blue tile and linoleum kitchen floor ain't goin' no where :( ) I am excited at the challenge of making this place look its best.

We have an awesome neighborhood-- very beautiful. If you've ever seen We Were Soldiers, we are close to where they filmed that and the houses are just like that. (If you haven't seen We Were Soldiers, you need to.) I am also extremely excited to be across the street from a great friend from Fort Bragg! :) I totally lucked out, and that is going to make this whole transition so much easier.

We are walking distance to a brand new dog park, and rambo has already started making friends. Everyone in our neighborhood has stopped to introduce themselves, which is really nice-- I only wish I had myself together by now and weren't a dusty, haggard mess after this move! ;)

I am most excited that we have a functioning wood-burning fireplace, built in book shelves, hardwood floors, lots of windows and storage. The kitchen is what I'm least excited about.... but, what can you do.

Most of our stuff arrived safely-- with the exception that our big black sectional COULDNT FIT IN OUR HOUSE!!!!! AGH! Both our front and back doors have small entry nook corners, and the beast couldn't make the cut. It also got a good bit of scraping to it during the attempt, which greatly lessens its craigslist value. (wah-wah). While it's extremely frustrating, it means I get a new couch--- or that I get to argue with kyle about letting me get a nice one after all this hard work of moving.

Today is Friday-- well, in 30 minutes it will be Saturday. And on Monday we are expecting to move into a house in a different state that we don't have yet, nor have we seen, nor do we know which one.

If there's a hell, I think it exists in my garage with all of the boxes and furniture and trash bags.

Tomorrow is the big crazy day where we pack the moving truck up, and oh yeah-- we are also showing our house to a potential renter, doing the final walk-through with our property managers, picking up the truck, and driving down to meet kyle's dad in South Carolina so he can help us with the move/drive to Georgia. (Hallelujah!!!!!) I'm not exactly sure how all of this is going to get done, but I've been working at super human power and speed, and I'm just hoping that hulk-strength sticks around through the weekend at least.

Yeeahhh we don't have a place to live. Our intentions of settling into a nice little bungalow on post are being twisted into settling into another dingy dump thanks to the most ridiculous lady in the Fort Benning Housing office. (You know who you are. You're getting slapped when I see you on Monday). We've been led on thinking we were getting one thing-- and are now hearing it could be a 2 month wait. That won't do... Kyle will have been gone for a month at that point. I can do a lot of things by myself, but moving AGAIN will not be one of them. This is the 3rd out of state move in 3 years of marriage. (I feel like the Army should be paying for me to get massages right about now.)

I'm hoping Rambo forgets what having a backyard means..... because he likely will not have one.

You probably won't be seeing any "House Proud" posts for a while.............. And actually, you might not be seeing any posts for the next week or so while I'm moving/MIA.

It's happening this week-- leaving our first house. I am so devastated. One of the worst feelings was painting out my pretty stripes in the bathroom, and taking down the photo collage in my staircase. I feel totally gutted-- similar to what my house is going through right now.

Other things I missed out on in this house:

*Backyard BBQ's

*Painting my bedroom

Things I DID do in this house:

*Cooked 1st Thanksgiving dinner

*spent approximately 300 days by myself (just a guess, though I don't think its far off)

*vacuumed 457 times

*painted bathroom dark grey

*ate 100 toaster strudels

* redecorated the guest room-- 3 times

*family cuddles 1,000 times

*neighborhood walks- 400 times

*had 18 sinus infections

...*packed 100 boxes.

We have only a few days left in Casa Baum, but I am farewelling it now, because with everything packed up (and sloppy), it no longer feels like our home. Crossing our fingers that we find someone who will love it as much as we have.

Kyle's #1 wish is for the Cardinals to take the World Series. This kid woke up giddy as can be about last nights game save (by his high school classmate David Freese, go LaFayette!), so basically we watch ESPN nonstop this week. (I'll have to go on a Bravo cleanse next week).

We might be crazy-- we just decided to do a DITY move rather than have the army move us-- which, last time, we swore we'd never do it ourselves again. It's kind of one of those things where we are taking one for the team in order to utilize our time better and get settled before the big D.

Also, Property Managers suck. I'm not sure how we are having such horrible luck with people no-showing, and backing out, but now the pm's have managed to have it listed for almost 3 weeks with NO pictures up and incorrect information. ME=LIVID.

We got orders, finally! Our slow-moving, bum days are coming to a screeching halt as we can finally make a little progress on this process. Moving with the army is an OR-DEAL. While I'll be glad to have it all over with, I'm trying to hang on to my time with K as much as possible and enjoy it, no matter what the crappy circumstance is. One of my happier thoughts and light at the end of the tunnel is the dream of decorating the next place. Anyway, we've got bigger things coming before I can truly think about that.... but if you're wondering how I plan to "cope" with deployment... free reign on paint colors while K is away is my first method to try.

Favorite trend for fall? All things Equestrian-inspired.... though I really hope its not a trend, and that it's here to stay. Luckily, all the main ingredients in riding this bandwagon are classic ~~stables~~, I mean staples.

You've got your tweeds, your stripes, camel, wool, plaids, leathers, etc. And the thing I love about equestrian, is that more is more. Preppy and rich. Why not mix plaids and prints? (I totally think of Carson Kressley).

Orders

You know how I'm supposed to be moving, like right now? Well there's this thing in the army called "Orders." Basically, that's the official paperwork that has to be given to you in order for you to start the moving process... So this is all getting held up by a few nerds in the human resources dept who haven't gotten around to typing up paperwork. Hello! Who's in charge here?!

Anyway, it's driving me nuts. Don't they realize that movers, outprocessing, and us getting on a waiting list for housing all depend on that stupid piece of paper? If the women ran the army, the housing situation would not be going like this, I can tell you that much. To show up to a new post and hope for a place to live is unrealistic. I cannot even get any information on how long the waiting list is for housing until we have orders. I'd really like to get settled down there before the big D comes, and thats only a matter of weeks. (The big D does not refer to Don and Diane. although they are coming in December as well....)

So essentially, I can do nearly nothing to progress this move right now. I can't take anything off the walls or start the crazy packing/sorting, because we still need to find renters/buyers. I'm just stuck until those papers come, and then all hell breaks loose!

I'm a retired woman and don't know what to do with myself. (Oh yeah, aside from moving and craziness.) Kyle and I slept in-- or should I say, KYLE slept in, because my body can't figure out how to do that or to not have to urgently go to the bathroom at 7 am. We had a lunch date @ McD's, then a gym date (i know. necessary after McD's.) and cleaned a little-- since umm renter #2 has backed out and left us screwed over once again, and we will have to have it all spic-and-span for more walk throughs before it turns into box/butcher paper central.

GOOD news: 2 BUYERS contacted us today. Hooooray! Keep your fingers crossed and send up some big prayers because it would be fantastic news if that worked out for us. ...considering we only have 2 weeks left here to deal with things, it would be really great to have that part dealt with, ....umm yesterday.

*sniff sniff* I am surprised by how overcome with sadness I am today-- it was my last day working @ Tangles, and I walked in ready to get out of there, and walked out reluctantly at the end of my day with totes full of things in hand. I was sent off in style by my fabulous coworkers and dearest friends-- we had dinner last night at an Italian Bistro, and today I walked in to a sweet cake and a "decorated" station. (including FOIL flowers, and doing all my biggest pet peeves to mess up my station. stinkers!)

So lucky to have made so many forever-friends. They were literally the only thing worth driving that far every day for! I spent more time with them the last 2 years than I did with my husband, and we spent countless hours chatting and giggling in the salon. SO many good memories. I have to keep reminding myself that I will see them again! Thank heaven for Facebook.

It's no secret that I have a thing for globetrotting (ideally to europe), but I am also a huge fan of globes and maps. I LOVE the use of maps in these rooms- they make for a classic and UNIVERSAL (get it?) statement. Whether its an entry, living room, den, nursery, kids bedroom-- you can find basically anywhere to reuse this idea.

....If we don't get orders soon, I may realistically do that at Fort Benning. (You think it'll work on the Post Commander's beautiful house????) I'm going a little nuts knowing that within a month we need to be somewhere new in a totally different house in a totally different state and unit and reconfigure our gameplan for the next few years.

Headed back to Fort Benning! Woot Woot!

I think last night was the first time i've slept well in months-- partially because I was up with my girlfriends until well past midnight but also because I got the call from the Bauminator last night saying he'd passed his board review/RASP and is officially headed to the Ranger Regiment (3/75).

This brings a lot of relief for me as we've been on hold with many major decisions-- our house, my job, school, etc.

I am surprisingly sad to leave Fayetteville, as I have made SO many new friends here, and lets face it-- my house is pretty much better than any military housing I'll ever get, (with the exception of this beauty below!) However, I'm very excited to get back down to Rambo's homeland with family in Atlanta, pretty much the most awesome friend ever in Pensacola, many friends @ Fort Benning (and many returning during our time there!), and to eat at The Cannon. :)

Excited to get back to this:

"Riverside"- The Benning Post Commander's house. Historic Beauty-- if you've ever watched WE WERE SOLDIERS, then you've seen it! *Sigh, someday. If we can manage another 30 years in the army!*

Going nuts in a quiet house-- after I dropped my fam off at the airport yesterday I sort of hit a wall and was very very ready for the Bauminator to be home. The lack of helpful information or plan that will ultimately be a big/immediate game changer for us is eating away at me (and my stomach. Hello again, Ulcer!)

I was able to have my mom, sister and her little boy come hang with me for the weekend in North Carolina. We were not nearly good enough at documenting this trip, but we did get some pictures of our venture onto Fort Bragg where I gave them the "Grand tour" and showed Robby the airplanes, (which he could not get enough of!)

It was nice to have some company in my quiet house! The weekend went by way too quickly...

I miss you guys already!

Yes-- we're totally jumping the gun here. Patience has never been my strong suit. But Rambo is super excited to show you his badass Halloween costume.

The only thing I like about Halloween is getting dress up Rambo. (Likewise, that is the thing Rambo likes the least.) After the last two years of buying Target costumes (Karate Kid and a Ninja Turtle-- we've got a kyle movie theme going so far....) this year I decided to pull out all the stops and be the super mom that makes a costume from scratch.

But he sure is a good sport-- and this year, it's a manly costume.

House Proud

I've worked my toosh off keeping this house spick-and-span for viewers

(BTW, pretty sure we snagged a stellar renter)

But I'm going to show you why I'm really house proud right now:

Finally got my chevron rugs (ok, it was a month ago)

and I dreamt about them since West Elm put them in their catalog like- a year ago. So after lusting after them for many moons, finding them on clearance makes me extra proud. :)

they make me super happy with my stripes and pictures of rambo.

Possibly my favorite thing. (Uber trendy? Guilty.)

But I love kicking off my morning in that sunny bathroom.

I finally filled that awkward space in the entry, that absolutely drove me nuts.

I also added some handmade art (ok, so I totally ripped off an etsy shop, but I couldn't justify paying for something I can do myself- and I am not patient enough for shipping!)

I totally snagged this french poster at the GOODWILL for $5.

Clearly Fayetteville doesn't know a treasure when they see it...

I can physically count down the number of Saturdays that are left working in my career as a hairdresser, and it's glorious. I am really looking forward to taking my weekends back.

Kyle is doing good-- finally heard from him last night, and no major setbacks so far. Rambo and I are really missing him and trying to hold down the fort for a few more weeks.

Oh man you guys. Regretting a late night as I'm getting up this morning. Last night I was farewelled from my beloved Coffee Group (unit wives get together)-- though as I looked around, there were only a small handful of familiar faces to rest my gaze on... Different from what I was expecting to say goodbye to, but it was definitely easier that way!

I'm meeting with a Property Manager today and I can already say that I'm not impressed. How rude is it to cancel after you've already rescheduled twice??? Do I care if I don't personally know this person? I just hate doing that to people when I know how annoyed I get when people don't respect their appointment times with me.

I think it's going to have to be a Dr Pepper and Excedrin kind of morning-- I'm not made for late nights!
